Salaam Dunk Documentary!!

About The Film

Set in Northern Iraq, Salaam Dunk is an authentic story about basketball, friendship, and the pain of losing those we love. The documentary comes to life through traditional interviews and private confessional video diaries.

Two years ago, most of the women on the basketball team at the American University of Iraq - Sulaimani (AUIS) had never been running before. Many had never played sports. None had ever been on a team with other women. They came from all corners of Iraq to attend this prestigious school, but many cannot tell family back home they go to an "American" university.

Salaam Dunk not only follows the ethnically diverse AUIS women's basketball team as they discover what it means to be athletes, but reaffirms the power of sports for social change. Beyond the game, young women are empowered and unified in their purpose. They develop leadership skills, break down barriers, and most importantly, revive hope in a war-torn country. The global reach of the documentary’s message is significant - it has no boundaries.

How You Can Help

The film is close to being finished but there are a lot of things left to pay for. Funds to support music licensing, a new sound mix, additional color correction, and festival submission fees are among our most pressing needs.

Support the film, support sports for social change. Even a small contribution can make a big difference! To donate, please visit: http://www.indiegogo.com/salaam-dunk
