Join SHIP Efforts and change lives

SHIP is a voluntary initiative by 4 ladies who are passionate about giving young people in Uganda information , knowledge and personal skills on how to deal with their sexual health.

So far we have equipped 25 Sexual Health Educators who are now conducting Sexual health education sessions in 6 Senior Secondary schools in Rukungiri District. The SHEs are volunteers selected from among the community (teachers & health workers mainly ). The methods used are interactive games covering areas of ; Decision making Game (Stop – Think – Decide - Act!) ; Memory Game on general issues affecting adolescents; Musical Chairs (HIV/AIDS awareness) ; Gender roles/stereotypes game; Body parts game (Know your body parts & appreciate your bodies) Marketing a product (Building your Self esteem and self worth) e.t.c

1) What is a specific challenge facing your organization or community that you need to solve in order to be able to move forward with your vision?

The demand for expansion is growing given the unique approach of using interactive games to pass on skills and knowledge. We want to develop training manuals, materials to equip the SHEs (such as toys for gender stereo types sessions) cards, etc. We also require to fund raise for more trainings, some fund raisers are welcome to mobilise resources for SHIP. We require support in setting up a website to increase on our visibility and network and share experiences. Some help is organizing the documentation of the experiences. Some work can be done through correspondence, I think.

We want to share ideas on how to deal with provision of sanitary towels to school girls. This is a big problem for girls in SHIP project sites.

2) What kind of expertise is needed to help you solve this challenge?

We are looking for volunteers who have expertise in creating a training manual (we have information, but putting it in order is what is required)

Designing a website to increase visibility
Mobilising resources for expansion of SHIP
collect material such as toys, stationery for the sessions
Ideas on how to deal with the challenge of the need for sanitary towels for girls

3) In what ways might a student, or team of students, be able to help?

A student or group of students can help us by creating a website, putting together our reports for documentation to be shared in a simple format, mobilize resources. Collect toys etc.
