Changemaking Resources

Resource Mapping has enabled me to look at resources that I have always been predisposed to, but rarely took notice of them. I now have a new and different way of identifying my resources. I was actually surprised to realize that I have so many resources than I could ever imagine. This has helped me to redefine and strategize resources towards achieving my goal of reducing teenage pregnancy and creating lifetime opportunities for adolescent girls; allowing them to thrive and positively contribute positively to their communities and society at large.

Here are personal and communal resources I noticed I have and are still key in my own personal growth and development of Boresha Dada (Make a Girls' Life Better).

These are:

My education background, personal experiences which inspired the whole idea behind Western Twaweza Empowerment Campaign that runs Boresha Dada Empowerment Campaign. My unique story of resilience and overcoming various challenges including an irrational culture and rejection, and now has her own and confidence; I have bounced back whenever I fall. This story will inspire most adolescent girls transiting especially teen mothers who face myriad challenges to find themselves. I dream on, I live and I will leave my footprints on the sands of time.

My extremely supportive family, my sons' understanding baffles me when especially when I am on calls or when I am working on ‘Boresha Dada’ programs. My mom, sister and brother have been my strongest pillar in everything I have gone through taking me back in and helping me to raise and nurture my son while I am away on various engagements. They have also advised me how best to approach both personal and work aspects. My friends have volunteered on teaching me skills that I now pass on to the girls. Additionally they help me to facilitate life and technical skills training that we normally have. Both my family and friends are instrumental in realizing the goals of ‘Boresha’ Dada.

The third most important resource are my networks both local and global; from World Pulse and The Aspire Foundation who helped in expanding the activities of Boresha Dada both on Social and Electronic Media. I have been offered opportunities to discuss Boresha Dada on local radio and television which will not only give our work visibility but also influence policy and bring on board more advocates to champion the rights of adolescent mothers and encourage comprehensive sexuality education which is also a part of this campaign. I have been recommended for material supply, trainings, conferences and fellowships that enable me work on Boresha Dada more effectively. Being a work in progress my networks have given ideas and time to enhance the scaling up of the campaign.

Attached are my other resources and strategies in tabular format that contribute to the impact and outcomes of Boresha Dada. These resources listed in this table will help in expanding and scaling up of my campaign and speed up my ultimate goal of bringing out excellence, transforming and empowering adolescent mothers and girls
