Introducing myself and my journal: Women Empowerment

About Me:
My name is Ede. A 26year old graduate of Pharmacology and Therapeutics and also a Nigerian.
Girls' Power Initiative (GPI) is a non-governmental organization that empowers young girls on their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRH). Having gone through the three-year training (1999 – 2001) that GPI organises for young girls, I am a member of the organisation’s alumnae association. I have worked as an Intern in the organisation in order to have practical knowledge of all the topics/issues learnt. My zeal for leadership and development work has propelled me to work on some interventions in communities.
Since my graduation from this organization's training, I have tried to put the information I have gotten from the training into practice thereby instilling it into my everyday life. I use every experience i get as a teachable moment to enlighten youths and even adults.
As a result of my passion for empowerment, I have worked with this organization as a volunteer and youth facilitator fo many years. I have represented the organization in several conferences, seminars and trainings within and outside my country and carried out a step down training for staff in the organization in order to implement the decisions arrived at during the programs. As a result of my excellent volunteer work and progress I have made in my organization, I was selected to represent my country, Nigeria in the World Youth Conference held in Guanajuato, Mexico in August 2010.
I can boldly say that I have achieved a lot in this my few years on earth but I am not satisfied at all. This is because of the deteriorating participation of women in many activities in my country. It is a very sad situation that a country that is working towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals by 2015 still have not seen how useful and effective the place of a woman is in the society.
I am very happy about this forum because i know that its going to provide an avenue for me to put more work on this issue of women empowerment and i believe that my interaction with other youths and women in this Forum is going to provide and avenue for strong networking and i know we will go a long way in achieving our dreams.
EMPOWERMENT IS MY PRIDE
