25 people died, more than 1000 are injured. This is the result of the raid launched by police on Independence Square in Kyiv yesterday, February 18. “It was a day of non-stop bloodletting, smoke, fire and screeching ambulances,” says Kyiv Post, a Ukraine’s leading English-language newspaper.



President blames opposition for violence. People blame President for allowing the situation to go to bloodshed.



EU leaders call for Ukraine sanctions, reports Financial Times on its website: “There are no circumstances that can legitimise or justify such scenes,” José Manuel Barroso says.



Lady Ashton, the UE Foreign Policy Chief, initiated an extra meeting of EU’s foreign ministers in Brussels on Thursday to discuss about the sanctions: “All possible options will be explored, including restrictive measures against those responsible for repression and human rights violations,” said in the official statement.



Despite of the calls to leave Maidan, Kyiv main square, women don’t go. They prepare Molotov cocktails, help wounded and pray… Pray for the safe and peaceful future of Ukraine.
