Local Pulse

One year ago, a group of World Pulse community members gathered at World Pulse Headquarters in Portland, OR. \"Local Pulse\" grew out of my desire to connect with other World Pulse members in my city, and to address issues relevant to women and girls. The group meets monthly, and tonight, we celebrated International Day of the Girl (October 11) and discussed the importance of educating girls around the world. We watched \"Senna's Story\" from the wonderful film, Girl Rising (http://girlrising.com), and Skyped with Phionah (https://worldpulse.com/user/16365), World Pulse contributor and girl champion from Kenya. Phionah inspired us with her story of overcoming adversity to obtain an education. She is currently a fellow with the YWCA of Austin, TX, and has big plans for her Malkia Empowerment Foundation when she returns to Kenya!

The purpose of Local Pulse is to connect with community members at home and abroad, and to focus on how issues affect us locally and globally. If you live in the Portland area, please join our meet-up group. If you don't I encourage you to start a group in your area. I promise you will value the connections you make!
