My name is Jamiela Sungkar. I am very excited to be a part of this amazing online community. I have been through a challenging time recently and would love the oppurtunity to provide support to other women going through their own personal hardships.
I was born in Sydney Australia, and moved to Perth over 15 years ago. My mother is Australia and my father is Indonesian. I can understand Indonesian but I am limited in my ability to communicate in the language. Growing up with a blend of the two cultures has been an enriching experience and I am fascinated by the diversity amongst our communities today.
I am a full time single mum with a beautiful son, he is 2.5 years old and is such a blessing! Having him has taught me to appreciate the simple things in life and to have fun being in the moment! Motherhood has been the most exciting and rewarding job in the world, despite its challanges.
Over the last few years I graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology and have worked in mental health, suicide prevention and telephone counselling. All of which I found very rewarding. I am currently enrolled in a Postgraduate Sexology course.
My passions are diverse! I love experiencing different cultures, traveling, reading, swimming, spending time at the beach, listening to music, dancing and cooking! And I genuinely love to help people in any way that I can!
I love getting to know people and learning about their journeys. I am looking forward to meeting like minded people who are interested in voicing womens issues and hope that we can all have a positive impact on each other through this platform.
My Vision for the Future
My vision for the future is to support and empower women on a global scale. By providing them with an oppurtunity to voice concerns that are most impacting to them and finding ways to resolve them at grassroots level.
I'm also interested in helping women develop innovative ways to obtain resources to ensure their basic needs are met. Expanding access to food, water, shelter, education, healthcare and general support. I think this would help more women receive the rights they deserve and increase their chances of reaching their full potential!
I am also very passionate about promoting an awareness of abuse and violence against women. Especially amongst younger girls. There seems to be a strong focus on "safe sex" which can be helpful. But I think women all around the world would benefit even more so from having an awareness of the early warning signs of abuse that are often overlooked. I think this would help to save alot of girls from emotional and phsyical abuse, violence and encourage them to seek relationships which empower and enrich them rather than ones that will oppress them!
