Rumors of Ingrid Betancourt's Release

In this week's issue, The Economist reported of rumors that Ingrid Betancourt might
be released by FARC, her captors for over six years.

When I just searched Google news, I saw that a lot has been happening since the issue went to print. It is believed that Ms Betancourt is suffering from liver problems and that her health is poor. Within the past week France unsuccessfully tried to send a medical team to treat her. The government said it will not abandon attempts to free her.

Like so many of you, I send thoughts of freedom, safety and health to Ms Betancourt and the other hostages held by the FARC. I send thoughts of healing to Columbia. I send a vision to the world where the social, political and economic ground is so fertile that only lush, rich life can thrive.
