Medicinal plant gardens in India



The Jammu and Kashmir Medicinal Plants Introduction Centre (JKMPIC), with the help of the State and Central medicinal plant boards, is implementing a ‘Home Medicinal Garden' project in Jammu Regions.



As many as 150 people who can plant more than 50 medicinal plants in their courtyard will be considered for the project. Each participant will have to grow at least 50 plants belonging to 15 species of shrubs, trees and the ones that can be grown in flower pots. Five to 25 cents of land will be needed for the project which would last three years.



Besides individuals, neighbourhood groups, residents' associations, organisations, local governing bodies shall also apply. Applicants will be provided saplings and seeds no-profit-no loss and will be subjected to awareness classes on the uses of various medicinal plants.



They will also be trained in manufacturing of medicines at home while those interested in commercial growing of medicinal plants will be given expert guidance.
