books books books!

Hello All!

I am checking in to see how everyone is fairing with the reading. Here are some of the brainstorms from myself and others.

I would like to suggest that we read one book every other month. For example, "Half the Sky" for January/February, and the next selection for March/April, and so on.

I feel that a book a month is a great goal, but we are all busy women, and it does take some time to read, and then discuss. I think that the challenges we've had in the past, may be related to the fact, we finished one book, and had to jump into the next book, while trying to discuss the first one. I think it's too much to juggle. I would love to read more books, but in this case, I vote quality over quantity. We have so much to learn and share with each other, I don't think we should rush that. What do you all think of this?

It would really be great for us all to be pondering the questions, and then hear each other's answers; as we come from different places, we have so much to share with each other. I do think we could coordinate a few skype sessions too. It will all just take some planning, as we are all in a spectrum of time zones.
Does anyone feel that they want to take charge of this aspect of the bookclub? Coordinating the skype times? maybe 2 different times, to accommodate the many time zones?

How about we say we try to be wrapping up the book by the 7th week. That way by the 8th week, we can discuss, and prepare for the next book.
So, in this case, we could try to finish "Half the Sky" by the week of Feb. 15th-20th( February is so short!) and then be prepared to discuss the next week.

Does anyone feel especially passionate about taking charge of creating a list of questions to spark discussion? I would be glad to throw a few in the mix, but would love others to do so also. And those who have already read the book, maybe they would be willing to ask a few questions, as they are already a step ahead in the ballgame. (ellen smith and ladylurksalot? I know you both said you have read "Half the Sky", would either of you be interested in sparking a discussion in the book club? All you have to do is go into the our bookclub forum and click on 'contribute' and make a post.)

What books would you all like to read for 2010? I'm going to look over the arts section in the e-magazine. Please suggest your preferences. So, in this case, we would have 5 more books to read, if we do the bi-monthly book reading. Let me know soon, so I can try to create a list, and get your feedback.

AND

Who cannot get the book "Half the Sky"? I know some of you can't, and I would like to find a way for everyone to be able to read and discuss, who want to. And those of you who may have suggestions for how to affectively get the books to everyone, do share:) We want to have everyone participate who wants to. Let's do this together, we can make it happen!

WE are in this together! Let's make this happen! Sending you all love and inspiration in your literary journey!
