Introducing myself and my journal: Save Our Oceans

About Me:
Growing up in Hawaii, I was influenced by the exotic culture, colors and nature of the islands and was blessed with a father who was a photographer. I have always been interested in art, and studied watercolor rendering and drafting at an interior
design school in Hawaii. In 2011, I traveled to Turkey and visited a silk carpet factory, which inspired my desire to paint on silk. These images are reflected in my hand-painted silk scarves, wall hangings and most recently, silk jackets. I am
currently a member of Gallery One in Grants Pass, Art Presence in Jacksonville, and Southern Oregon Guild in Kerby, as well as showings in various coffee houses and art venues in the Rogue Valley, Oregon. Due to my exposure to the ocean in Hawaii and Oregon, and the awareness of how fragile the ocean and it's creatures are, I recently created a "cause", or meaning for my silk painting. I was also greatly influenced by the book, "Plastic Ocean", by Capt. Charles Moore, in which he says, “Plastics in particular are a threat to vanishing marine species and their fragile habitats – more damaging than climate change! As oceans teeter on the brink of irrevocable decline, they send a message to humanity,… your health and well-being may also be at risk.” It's like the philosophy of Buddhism and the law of cause and effect, being mindful.
