Digital Action Campaign Narrative

I am going to launch my campaign to eradicate street and public harassment as this is common in Afghanistan and also I have read about it and realized that majority of the young girls have been harassed in one way or another. I have experienced Street harassment in my city, this is a very a serious problem which most people see it as normal because it is constant and majority accept it. Almost not considered as an “issue”, except a few organizations working but have not been able to effectively solve this problem. I believe that awareness is the biggest part of every change.

My campaign will start from spreading awareness about street or public harassment and may go on to the next stages. The initial aim of my campaign is to tell people that street or public harassment is neither “normal” nor “compliment or fun” but rather it is a problem that attack women’s privacy and freedom. In addition it is not normal as it directly plays with one’s psych.

For my campaign I will use social media (particularly Facebook in the beginning) because most of Afghan people have access to Facebook. I will start with sharing photos, writings, and videos. To reach more audience, I will invite my friends to take part in writing and designing the content and spreading the information around. I will also sponsor my campaign Facebook page to reach more people. The incentive for participants will be the outcome of campaign. Apart from their sense towards women as humans, their own mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends will not be the victims of street and public harassment.

Even though my campaign may not resolve the issue completely, but I will work hard and make sure I create a very strong awareness that more than 60% in Kabul city would understand, get educated or participate and once this awareness is created I do believe that it can be effective. By the end or during the process of my campaign, I wish to see men and women feel themselves responsible in supporting a woman who is being attacked rather than just being silent, careless, and watching the scene. Or even sometimes the targeted woman cannot speak up because she may even face a bigger group of people, since woman who has been targeted is blame anyway because it is shameful when a woman shout or yell atman who harasses her just because of her clothing or for any reasons. But almost no one take the woman's side and to make the man understand his fault. Therefore, I try to at least change this part of the problem in my city.
