Following My Blog on Haiti and Global Development and Philanthropy

On January 14, my husband and I joined with the Boston Foundation to establish the Haiti Relief and Reconstruction Fund, challenging the people of Boston to contribute to this five-year grantmaking effort. Over a year later we have raised $2.4 million and have an Advisory Council of 35 members, and a Grantmaking Committee of 15 members, many being Haitian American.

The day after cholera broke in Haiti, I began to chronicle my learnings about Haiti and international development on a blog. To my amazement it has attracted wide readership by funders, aid workers, NGO staff and Haitian Americans.

The blog contains guest entries by staff working in Haiti and by Haitian Diaspora leaders, summations of reports, reprinting of commentary and news about the reconstruction of Haiti -- as well as my own reflections. I invite you to join me as I learn about Haitian culture and politics and steely resolve. I also have a Twitter account @karenansara

In compassion and solidarity,

Karen Keating Ansara
