Introducing myself and my journal: Row for Water

Katie Spotz
Posted February 14, 2010 from United States

About Me: This January, I embarked on a solo row across the Atlantic Ocean! After 2,500 miles and 70-100 days alone at sea, I will become the youngest person ever to row an ocean solo and the first American to row from Africa to South America.

But this row is about something much more important: safe drinking water. Unsafe drinking water is the leading cause of sickness, disease and death worldwide ― but it's a problem that, working together, we can solve. To join me in helping the billion people around the world who lack access to safe drinking water, click here.

Thanks for your support!

My Passions: I am passionate about using endurance events to raise awareness about critical global health, social, and environmental issues.

My Challenges: Securing funding to create and implement new projects.

My Vision for the Future: I envision a world where every human has access to the most basic need - safe drinking water.

My Areas of Expertise: Extensive involvement in the nonprofit sector including fund raising, media, project planning and development.

It's a joy to welcome you to our online community. I am in awe of your row and am happy to read that the medical kit remains unused. I look forward to reading all about your journey for clean water and thank you for raising money for this very worthy cause. Best wishes for the second half of your row, Janice Director of Operations, World Pulse

    Hi Katie,

I am amazed at your strength and determination to take on such an incredible feat and to do it for safe drinking water for everyone. You are amazing!

Welcome to our community, where you can connect with other grassroots women leaders from around the world - some who you are rowing on behalf of - as they too bring awareness in their writing and activism for the people of their own rural communities to access clean water.

Let me know if you'd like me to introduce you to these women! Meanwhile, I will be following your journey through your journals.

    Warm regards, Jade
