History will be made tomorrow September 14,2010 as over 100 men would be gathered at the Lagos Travel Inn, to discuss what they can do to end violence against women and girls in Nigeria.

The gathering is coming as part of the Male Involvement Project(MIP) of Project Alert in collaboration with some pro-feminist men and male-led organizations.

This is arguably the first time an all men summit will be holding in Nigeria to deliberate ways men can contribute toward ending violence against women as well as forming male support groups aimed at providing peer to peer counseling and support for men who need help in ending various forms of gender based abuses and violence.

Papers to be presented at the summit includes "A healthy father/daughter relationship: as panacea for preventing violence against women" By Kingsley Obom-Egbulem who is also one of the organizers of the summit.

Outcomes of the summit will be shared on this platform.

Regards.

Kingsley Obom-Egbulem

Dear Kinsley,

What an exciting summit! I hope that you will share your experience at the summit here in your PulseWire Journal, and also share with us your paper on "A healthy father/daughter relationship." I think this is something that everyone worldwide can learn from. Do you have daughters? What are they like and how have they inspired you in your life and work?

And I would love to hear what solutions and calls for action come out of the gathering tomorrow. What an important step for gender equality and ending violence in Nigeria.

It is a joy to have such an active and passionate brother in the women's movement in our community and I look forward to reading more of your inspiring and insightful journals!

I encourage you to also re-post this in the Nigerian Cafe.

In friendship and solidarity, Jade

Hey Kingsley,

I'm very excited you're going to share the outcomes with us here. I'm really looking forward to your insight on masculinity development! And if your previous posts are any hint of what this summit is going to be, this summit has a lot of promise!

All the best,

Congrats my brother .This is hoping you'll have a great summit. Really there can't be much change until our boys and men catch the fire that burns against gender inequality and violence against girls and women. Thanks.

Shalom.

I get shivers thinking about this summit! I am sure it will be the first of many, many more. I hope that we can carry out such summits around the world, for different cultures, to eliminate the epidemic of violence against women and initiate a global trend of nurturing and peace.

Kind regards,

Rachael

Dear Kingsley,

When I saw the title, I grinned and went straight to click on it. Why? I wished this was happening in Kenya. Kingsley, congratulations for being bold enough and believing that it was important to bring together men to discuss violence against women.

Kindly share the paper you present and also the strategies and interventions that will be developed I beleive as the way forward.

All the best

Florah
