Use the Pulse to Break the Barriers

One of the major challenges that I have found in creating change in my community is communicating the importance of causes to those who are unfamiliar with the specifics behind a cause. In order to become interested in a cause and find significance in it, one must first be familiar with the cause and understand why it is important.

One of the solutions I have found in overcoming this challenge is to go out in the community and speak to people about what is important to me. In order to do this, I have found organizations who represent my ideals and beliefs and have volunteered with them. In volunteering with these organizations I have been able to go to local events and talk to people in my community about issues that are important to me.

I have also found the internet to be a great communication tool. A number of open source programs have allowed me to share information on causes that I support. Social network sites allow me to reach out to individuals who are interested in causes. Content management sites such as Wordpress and Drupal have allowed me to create free and easy webpages that can be where people can go to learn more about specific causes.

I believe PulseWire also has a great deal of potential. I loved reading about the ResourceExChange. I think that when creating social change, one of the greatest barriers that people come across is access to resources - money, knowledge, people, etc. The ResourceExChange allows people to specifically pinpoint what they are looking for so that other people can respond to their needs. It also allows people interested in a specific cause to find others who may be working on similar projects to find each other and learn from each other’s work.

I am very interested in using the Global Gathering page to find and share events in my area. I think PulseWire is great because it brings people around the world closer and allows us to find people in our own city who we might not otherwise meet.
