After MASES had posted this news, there was a counter response in F.B from Namakkal4u.com saying that the news about rape is a rumour.

There were abusive comments posted in the blog-post, but there were also concern and outcry expressed in the comments.

I had written personally to those people who expressed their deep concerns about the steps taken by MASES, I even spoke to a person who said he is deeply hurt by this oppression by Management against further investigation.

From the day this news was posted I had been talking to many people and was exploring the next step. I was checking with few people to organize fact finding team. Each of them had their own Ideas and agendas which has actually put me in depression, because I could not arrive at a concrete plan. (The. no. of phone calls I have made to different people talking about this and wanting to go further is limitless). Later I was told that a Progressive organization and a student’s organization is also working on this case.

Yesterday I received a call from an important activist who shared with me that a protest is going to be staged which gave me some relief. Today I notice that a protest has been staged by ‘Aadhi Thamizhar Peravai’ outside collector’s office.

Thanks for investigating and bringing Gayathri's death to public attention. As you mentioned, the number of concerned commenters outraged by the incident or violently denying the truth of the story truly shows the importance of your commitment to taking action and organizing the facts.

You mentioned that you were feeling depressed at the overwhelming number of options to address this issue next. Is there one in particular that you've decided on? How did you come to that decision? Hopefully among the group of people you've been investigating with, one or multiple ideas can be carried out at the same time to see which one is most successful, or you can seek outside perspective to arrive at a reasonable plan. Maybe it would be helpful to collaborate with the other organizations working on the case and join together in solidarity. The scheduled protest outside the collector's office sounds like an great way to do so.

It would be very powerful to connect this report with your overall experience/knowledge of violence against women in Chennai and India as well as the work and mission of your organization. It would also be great to hear details about the other perspectives/agendas that have arisen from this situation and what your thoughts are on them.

With hope,

Katie Marie Portland, Oregon U.S.A

Thank you for bringing awareness to this issue and for making clear the facts surrounding Gayathri's death. I had not been aware of this incident -- and my heart broke in reading of it. Please keep writing on this issue and its aftermath -- and especially what organizations can do in solidarity to prevent -- or at least counteract --- such atrocities in the future. I'm hoping to hear from you again soon.

All the best, Susa

Another protest was organized on 8th october, by few political parties who are progressive movements and work for upliftment of women and the oppressed people.

Thank you for your work on bringing this case to light, Kotravai. We need to show femicide for what is it, a form of violence against women, without losing sight of each victim's individual story. Your hard work to reveal the truth will create culture change and is much needed. Best wishes and in solidarity, Shelley
