My name is Laison Sylvie, i am the only female from a family of 8 children.I come from a very poor home and growing up as a struggling little girl was not a bed of roses for me. My parents and brothers paid little attention to my needs as everyone was suppose to hustle . My father tried coming close but i was just not free enough to open up to him on my feelings.
The second month i saw my menses, we had a one week champ.I had very little ideas on menstuation management.I had planned so many special presentations with my friends but to my greatest dismay, everyone was avoiding me. I was exempted from all activities and was isolated from my friends. Our leader came to me and ask why i had such bad odor from my body? i was so demoralized and explained to her. She gave me pad to use and personally supervised me through out the week.My friends continued making mockery of me. I also followed my mother to the farm and followed her to the market to sale . I felt so inferior among my mates.
i envisage to reach out to underprivileged girls with menstrual hygiene management and access to healthy materials to use on the periods.
I will need resources to expand the production of my designed washable and reusable sanitary pads and make it accessible to every girl .
I am an influential speaker and passionate about working for underprivileged communities. Also a gender activist.
