Letting Our Voices Ring: Using Web 2.0

This is a world without borders. We are connected by cables and wires, through smart phones and tablets, one interconnected entity of words, pictures and phrases that communicate information, abstract concepts, emotions across spheres of cultures, ideologies, spaces and groups of people. Web 2.0 brings together all faucets of life into a realm of connectivity that allows for conventions and the harshness of realities to either be blurred or sharpened by those who utilized it.
It is the awareness that information from all over the world can be found with such simplicity and with the lack of exertion that appeals to me the most. Knowledge creates the impression of power, getting people to do what you want them to do even if they do not want to, empowering them with the necessary tools and skills to persuade with not only emotive words but with hard facts that allows one to stand back, take an objective perspective and wonder.
Utilizing the different applications heights my experience, as manipulating web 2.0 offers applications for every purpose and every problem. Each application used in conjunction with one another, provides an incomparable strength that propels me to continue to work to empower girls in disadvantaged area, to show them a space where they can thrive and become confident in their femininity and their ability to achieve greater things that were unimaginable.
The concept of “unity” is sharpened and brought into focus as Web 2.0 connects people from spheres, cultures, ideologies and societies. It allows people to support each other, to bring forward problems and creating solutions to issues together as one unifying spirit across oceans, countries and borders. With such support, the issues affect women can be rectified with much ease and swiftness that may with other mediums may have taken lifetimes to achieve.
There is a heightened awareness of women rights, gender-based violence and the susceptibility of women to the dangers of voicing their opinions within the physical public setting. Web 2.0 provides the women’s movement the cover of anonymity, creating a name without a face, shielding them from the harshness of criticisms and the brutality that they would face once their voices were heard. These are voices that were usually unheard, lost in the sea of concerns that seemed far larger that the issues they faced. Web 2.0 provides the medium for voicing their concerns, criticisms and issues that plague their society. These voices are magnified and resonate as bellows across vast oceans, quickly gaining the support and attention that is necessary to remedy the problems and to uncover unique solutions.
The tools offered by Web 2.0 are opportunities to share experiences and concerns that are not unique to me and the society in which I reside. This creates sentiments of inspiration not only for myself but for others who have similar experiences and encourages me to continue empower young girls and provide them with the skill sets to protect and advance themselves.
