2010 Women's Health Report Card

According to a recently released document by Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and the National Women's Law Center (NWLC), the state of women's health in the United States is distressingly deficient. While some progress has been made, including improvements in the realm of colorectal screenings, dental visits, and mammograms, the nation itself receives a grade of "Unsatisfactory", and only two states achieved a "Satisfactory Minus".

Other findings indicate an increase in binge drinking and obesity and a decline in women who obtain annual pap smears. Ultimately the health report card reveals how far the US has to go in achieving a well-rounded, comprehensive approach to women's healthcare.

The Women's Health Report Card is a project begun and prepetuated in part by Michelle Berlin, MD MPH, the primary investigator of a study I am coordinating at OHSU. She's an incredible, inspiring, and hard-working woman, and I am excited to be working with her in the field of women's health.
