We children have been affected by teachers strike.

Last year in January we were not going to school because it was risky for the guns that were being shot after the elections, and also because the teachers were not there. This year also in January the teachers are not there, but not because of post election violence but because the teachers have gone on strike. They have said that the government does not pay them well like human beings so they will not teach until they are paid well.Teachers have been making noise in the streets and some have been arrested by the police and thrown in the cells. The minister for education has said that they will not be given that money.

The teachers feel that the members of parliament are not fair because they are paid very well and they do not pay any taxes while the teachers are paid very poorly and they pay the taxes to pay the members of parliament.

I am not happy about how our teachers are being treated. Now i am a candidate and we are really affected. At the end of the year we are supposed to sit for our final exams which will promote us to secondary school but now we will not get enough time to finish all the syllabus and the exam will be set on all the syllabus. Our teachers were not supposed to strike because our school is private and they will not be given more money.but when we went to school some people came there and threatened us and our teachers so all of us must be home. Also i am not happy because the government usually arrests parents who don't take their children to school, and now the government is making us stay at home and they have promised not to give our teahers the money that they are demanding for.

Also the teachers have said that they cannot teach us in empty stomachs. Our parents are also complaining about us being at home!

I hope the government will be able to agree with the teachers. We really miss school and now many girls are doing a lot of work at home and not getting enough time to read, some children are just watching TV and playing when they are supposed to read.it is not easy for us to study at home.We want to go back to school! Please government help us!
