Empowering Rural Women Through Poultry Farming

I believe that women are key players in the development of any society,and that it is vital to strengthen their muscle in skills that they have some form of knowledge in.This is why I was glad to be part of an ongoing initiative that seeks to empower rural women.The Diaspora credit union this year during women’s month launched its Charity fund for rural women.Our organisation built a chicken shed and further donated $2000 usd for the rural women’s poultry project.We noticed that rural women are somewhat semi skilled in poultry farming but often lack the technical know how,quality input feed and vaccinations.This is where we stepped in as an organisation in the hope of capacity building thereby empowering rural women as well as alleviating poverty. We are confident that this project will improve their household incomes,nutrition and give them  a sense of equity in their communities.Our mission is to see women from most parts of the rural areas contribute to Rural poultry farming from subsistence levels to semi commercial production systems.The women of Washayanyika community village will never be the same again after this project.We are not stopping here this is just the beginning of a wonderful journey of building economically independent rural women.
