1st December World AIDS DAY!

There is hope for everyone!

It was somewhere in the 90's, that I got to understood clearly  the interpretation of this word "AIDS". It was a very sensitive word to use then! You have to be very careful with how you used it. The French name was "SIDA". The English meaning was A -Acquired I -Immune D -Deficiency S -Syndrome

We were told it was a very dangerous disease and Whoever got this disease will not survived, he was or will be a dead person living. We were told it was contagious and must be contained.

All those who suffered from AIDS were stigmatized. You can never share cups, even hugging and shaking hands of these people will incite stigma toward you. So every body was careful.

We were told it was a punishment from God for the wicked, the disobedience in society and for those who live bad lives. Examples sexual immoral people. As the name indicates it is acquired and it affect or destroyed the immune system. Victims are quarantined in some communities, excluded from mingling with family members even their kids are excommunicated from them. There was no hope at all for them.

She was a very sweet beautiful woman. The type that all men will look for. Thick tall  and hair all over her skin. She was very fair in complexity, almost referred to as " Obroni" white woman.

We lost her one faithful day after she gave up suffering as HIV/aids patient. How she contracted the virus was mysterious. It was during blood transfusion. Lamisi, we still missed your friendship, we missed your laughter however we are glad that you fought a fine fight until the end.

I am happy today, however a century down the line. The story is different. AIDS is not deadly anymore. Victims of AIDS or SIDA now have hope. The stigmatization is not as before, at least they are cared for, loved, and protected. Their children are not excommunicated from them. Actually, a victim can bone child without infecting the child with HIV AIDS. With this new retrovirus treatment and less stigmatization even their life's span has increase.

As December 1st every year  has been designated for World AIDS DAY. I will love to use this opportunity to encourage all living with this disease to keep fighting. They should take care of themselves by abstaining from sex, eat healthy food and do a lot of exercise if they can. They should never give up because there is always light at the end of the tunnel.  Family members of victims, please your encouragement will help them. Continue to include them in your activities, put the smiles on their faces, give them HOPE and together you can fight a fine fight.

HOPE is when all seem dark then suddenly light appears. When HIV/aids was discovered centuries ago nobody knew there will soon emerged a remedy. It was then 99.9% deadly sickness. However today we got hope towards it.

Aids is now rated number ten (10) deadly sickness. Cancer and the rest are now leading. This is hope! When there seemed to be no way then suddenly a road/ way immerged.

Hope is love, hope is to dream towards the worst situations. Is to swim in muddy waters.

Lets have hope towards the future, lets have hope toward global peace, lets have hope towards everything because the day we give up hope we will cease to exist.

This post is dedicated to all carriers and those who have lost their lives through HIV/aids. My sincere love to all who are still fighting on.
