A Great Woman.....

My grandmother passed away yesterday morning (5am,Fri - 20/08/10) in Suva, Fiji. She was 70 years old and she was a great woman. Bearing 6 six children, the first of them, my mother, she raised them to be strong and resilient.
She was kind and thoughtful. She was compassionate and considerate. She always had a ear to listen to your woes and a shoulder to cry on if you needed it. She taught us empathy and sympathy. She was wise and full of advice and always had a funny anecdote thrown in just to take of the pinch of the 'lecture' especially when it came to sex, family and responsibility.
She was a godly woman, always quoting from the bible and having family devotions every night at 6pm without fail - praying for every member of the family that was overseas. No one was allowed to 'sit out'.
She always maintained to the very end, that despite her failing heart and bad luck in recent years, God had planned it that way that he might bring her closer to him. She was a stout christian, even going as far as giving 10% of an inheritance from her late son (my dear uncle) to her local church. She was an astounding woman.

On her last night here with us on earth, even though she was already having trouble breathing and a weak pulse, she still insisted on having devotion with all her grandchildren and other family members present at the time. I was told she praised and worshipped like no other and prayed with all her heart. In a way, she knew her time had come and she was saying her last prayers and making her peace with God and others.

She was rushed to hospital 2 hours later and died in the early hours of the next morning. She was alone there as she'd been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and doctors wouldn't allow anyone in with her for fear of contamination to other patients. She died alone physically, but spiritually I believe, the god, her God that she worshipped and believed in was there holding her hand all the way for that transition home.

My grandmother was a great woman, and I will always love her, miss her and remember her with great fondness.

Rest in peace Nanna......
