Introducing myself and my journal: Global Stories, Local Perspective

About Me:
Eclecticism is my M.O. When I order off menus, I try to choose dishes that include a little bit of everything. I cannot ever decisively name my favorite book, or my favorite movie among the many I love. When people ask me where I want to travel, I say, everywhere and anywhere.

But I argue eclecticism does not necessarily amount to indecision. My interests and tastes are broad but, my eagerness to discover the world runs deep. The one thing unites the different parts of me is a desire to learn about and articulate the world’s stories. Stories of places, of people, of things or of ideas. My highest ambition is contribute to the world of storytelling and to create a story of my own in the process.

As an International Studies major and Journalism minor at DePaul University in Chicago I have had the opportunity to learn about the world with a global lens, while experiencing life in a world-class city with deep local roots.

Understanding the interplay between the local and the global has been a central theme in my personal life, as well as my life as a student. Drawing on a passion for travel and for language, I spent my 3rd year of my undergraduate degree studying French and linguistics at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland.

I hope to continue to live my life as a world citizen, constantly aware of and participating in a global political, economic and cultural system, while at the same time understanding the unique local environment that I inhabit on a daily basis, at the moment being the city of Chicago and the Midwestern United States.

My goal is to use a dual global/local perspective to tell stories which inhabit the areas where the local meets the global, whether that means the effects of an international crisis on a local community or the impact of a local artist in an international context.

I want to use my skills and talents to bring meaningful stories touching on a wide variety of subjects to both global and local audiences, shedding light on those stories that may not otherwise have been told and connecting people and communities that may not otherwise have been connected.
