Three women activists i love to interview

Time really flies so fast! It’s almost end of the month and so many tasks lining up. I’m so thankful for Jenni extending the deadline to July 5; at least I took some time to take a deep breath before starting another big time interview with fellow women activists here in our community. I’m thinking of interviewing any of the three prominent women activists with remarkable records of untiring advocacy for women’s rights.

The first one is Ms. Sharon Rose Joy Ruiz Duremdes, multi talented and renowned religious woman in the realm of activism not only in our community but internationally. She’s very popular among the religious sector especially in the Protestants groups on her progressive stands on different issues espousing theology of liberation, the theology of the poor. She is the first woman Secretary-General of the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP) an ecumenical groups of churches in the country. An ardent advocate of peace, she is currently the Co-Chairperson of the Philippines Ecumenical Peace Platform together with Archbishop Antonio Ledesma D.D. of the Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines. My interview with her will revolve on her involvement as a woman and a religious person on the peace process particularly on pushing for the resumption of peace talks between the Government of the Philippine Republic and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines- the revolutionary alliance of the Filipino people fighting for national democracy and sovereignty.

I would love to have a pleasant interview time with Congresswoman Liza Masa of Gabriela Women’s Party knowing she will be coming for a regional tour this coming week. Her dedication to the women’s struggle made her an icon of Filipino women especially women who are victims of sexual abuse and sexual violence. I would like to ask her the challenges of parliamentary work and the how she and her party resolves basic problems of women and children in the grassroots communities. I would love to engaged her with questions of women’s empowerment in the existing political situation of our country and what are the many chances of achieving women’s liberation through parliamentary processes.

My third one is Ms. Lucy Francisco. She is a staunch women’s advocate. Her powerful voice during rallies and demonstration articulates very much her down to earth connection with the grassroots women. Her engagement in women’s activism is multi-faceted ranging from a community organizing to managing and directing women’s programs such as Reproductive Health Care Program of the local chapter of Gabriela. Tita (Auntie) Lucy as fondly called by friends and colleagues is a woman you can rely upon even in the middle of the night. My interview with her would focus on issues of reproductive health care, how she and the program helped women on issues such as abortion, sexuality, family planning, pregnancy, etc.

I find it very interesting to interview these three women activists especially on there own field of specialization. I feel they represent a unique field of interest and its worth knowing.
