VOF Week 1 ( Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges)

From the remote villages of developing countries to the busy cities of the industrialised nations women are joint together with on the platform of information and communication technology with an agenda to be informed, educated, network and socialise. That is the excitement of web 2.0. The power to pull together people from different walks of life but with a common goal.

At the second thought of it, Web 2.0 offers the transfer of information that is breaking barriers of differences in culture, race, religion, space and time. Information is Power and communication is a liberty to which many women gathering under the umbrella of web 2.0 tool like worldpulse wire find identity and space that defines why being a woman is special. This can be seen from the freedom to choose with who and where to connect and even the the freedom to speak also make decisions and take control.

As a social entreprenuer and community organizer, I am empowered by the information that I receive from other women who share in the vision and mission similar to mine. I believe that "Iron sharpens iron" and new media tools like web 2 .0 makes it easier for me to network with those with similar interests.

In addition, the fact that we can maintain communication with women in remote villages of Africa and share experiences with them through means that bridges are being built to those areas that have been far reaching. Communication is now participatory involving even the least at the grassroots. That is empowerment and women should share in the stake. Thanks to web 2.0 for creating a plaform for women to share voices of reason.
