Girl child education in Cameroon.

The Prodigal Daughter.
This morning, my colleague, the Sub-Divisional Delegate, reported to me that yesterday, Wednesday, 09th July 2014, he received a young man in his office, who came to report that his concubine had abandoned her baby in the house where they have lived together as a couple. Our barber is in his mid 20s, and he was accompanied by his senior sister to whom he has confided the 1 year old baby since Friday, 04th July 2014.
My colleague immediately rang the 18 years old mother, and took an appointment with the couple for Thursday, 10th July 2014. This time, our young mother came while her partner claimed he was away on a journey. It was about 10:00 am in the morning when I rang and urged him to report with the baby to the Divisional Delegation of Women's Empowerment and the Family in Bafoussam, before the working day ends, or legal actions to be taken against him. About an hour later he came.
We engaged on a counseling session with this couple. They revealed to us that the young frustrated mother was effectively going to school until sometime in 2013, due to bad influence from peers, she became pregnant for the barber. Her father could not bear the disgrace and disappointment, and with all authority, he forced her out into the streets. She packed herself into her lover's house, where she has been until the incident. Even when her partner rejected her also, she was like all alone in the world with no one to talk to or trust, and she ran out again into the streets, this time taking refuge at an undisclosed friend's place. Until today, her parents never knew her whereabout.
Having recovered her baby, we counselled her on a number of issues, and this spurred her to agree with us that we could summon her parents.Instantly, she regretted and wept bitterly over her past, promising that she will like to go back home to her parents.
In the counseling session held later in the evening with our victim's parents, her father disclosed to us that he had 25 children... He was the most difficult to convince that he had to forgive and love his prodigal daughter again.
It was about 5:00 pm Cameroon time, when we finally reconciled daughter to parents. On her part, our victim has promised that if she is given the opportunity she will love to go back to school and continue with her technical education.
What a happy day for this family, though still much to be done. We have promised to be by them... We will disclose our young girl's identity when she will in the near future, go back to school.
No to Early Marriage for young school girls who suddenly experience the nightmare of school-drop-out, because they have committed the unforgivable crime of contracting an unwanted pregnancy!!!
