SUCCESSS STORY

Story of Maryam Batool

I am Maryam batool, I was born in 1993 in the very small village of Gujrat near University of Gujrat (Pakistan). I am the 4th daughter of my fathers 6 sisters . I was born in a family that wanted to have a son from Allah. That would be considered a miracle as for my father was an only son him self. So it looks like we are not going to have an uncle. Now my father is blessed with 7 daughters. I used to remember the day when I was 10 years old and I found out that a new sister came in to the home. Some of my woman relatives came and started crying while giving hugs to my mother. I asked to my elder sister “Why they are crying? My sister replied to me, "Because we got one more sister. That’s why they are crying“. The Dhangal movie by Amir Khan reminded me about the situation of my parents. Some people suggested that they go to Kanwa Wala Darbar (temple ), and visit the person who is Syed. He used to write some verses from the Quran blank page. Surely you will get a son he said. Because some of my close relatives were saying “ Zameenian larkuen k nam krwao gy kia ?? “ Your land would be in consideration for your daughters. When they marry, the land will be transferred to their families."By good luck we got one brother , now I feel that this journey is about to close because we have been blessed with a brother. But instead, I think this journey was started at that time. Education for a young women was not considered good for the girls in my family as for there are a lot families over there. I got my primary school education for 2-3 years where we used to study one book with same syllabus Alif sy “Anaar” Bay sy “ Bakri” OR (A for Apple, B for Ball). The book which I had crammed studying for a hundred times in 3 years. Then finally after getting a primary education I moved to a matriculation session where I became more educated above the primary level. However what I learned was not that much of a higher level for me. Now I was just an average student but I always aimed to reach a 60% success rate thinking that would be good enough for me. Somehow I felt I was not getting the type of education I was interested in. I remembered my High school teacher Shazia, she told me to never give up on your studies if you have a passion to learn. She gave me hope. Otherwise I was considering to just get a metric level education. In Matriculation, our Govt school did not launch Science subjects. So I told to my parents that I wanted to go in the field of Science. Science could possibly be where I could get a good job in that field. My father talked to my uncle and he said, Science parh k kia krna ? Doctor bnay ge? Etny men tu , tum apni 3 beetuen ka jahaiz bna skta h jitney paisy e spy lagao gy” I was so upset that I decided not to disturb my father and went in the field of Arts instead. It was my last year of Matriculation because in my childhood, I had a habit of writing different short quotations in my diary and sometimes different stories. I once wrote a very sad story about a princess in which my elder sister decided to read out in front my mother. At that moment my mother wept profusely. I told her that I will not get married after Matriculation because my one of sisters got married when she was attending Metric. She said she would need to talk to my father for further advice. And my father again went to the same Uncle. And one more time my father got gave the same advice, “ Jattan diaan koorrian 4 dewari wech kam kardiaan e theek lagdian “ ( Girls in our caste always looks good when they stay at home being a domestic woman.) I had passed my matriculation with a score of 69 % according to my target success rate. It was my crazy wish to go to college as for not one of my sisters had ever been to college before. I tried my best to convince my parents and an Aunt from my neighbored said this to my to my mother, “ ye tu apny baap ko jald he borha kr den ge parhauen k pechy e “( Their father will age too fast by paying their educational dues). My mother was speechless. Maybe she was thinking people are always right. Finally I completed my I.C.S from Gujrat with a 65% success rate. Once again I started the struggle to attend a university. It was one huge task for me to convince my father that this education system was a co-education system. I remember one day when my father was travelling on local bus and a University bus passed by. A man standing on the local bus talked to my father and said, “ University wech ty nerii begarti hundi izaat dar lok kera janday” (In this university there are sexual activities that can be distracting to those who want to study). My father was looking so worried that he removed his turban in front of me and said, always keep in mind that I have white hue hairs because of this. There was long fetter of tears in his eyes and mine. But I knew that time will change all of this soon. When I went to the University many things were waiting for me, or I was waiting for all those things. This made me a bit silent. In the last two years got involved in social activities. I worked in a quiz club and a Literary club. I learned a lot from that university. I always wanted to say a big thanks to my teachers and friends. Especially “Sir haroon from SSC” “Sir Kashif” Sir tuqeer baddar “ Sir Syed Shahbeer shah Hussain (Shaheed) and more of my teachers. After completing my degree I moved to Lahore and got a job in one of the Canadian based firms as a business development manager with good salary package. In those years I have created a few differences among my friends and family. I have counseled a lot with my father, mother and even my sisters. It was one of my very happiest moments when my very first poem ‘’Stranger” was presented in UK(Glasgow) in the Gomma library event under the federation of writers in Scotland. And they also entered me in to their forums. In 2016 I just worked on writing projects for Italy being a coordinator of young authors promotions. In the beginning, my writing and reading skills were very weak with a lot of grammatical mistakes. I wanted to go in the field of literature but by chance I went to statistics. Then my very first e book was also published my UK writers (MY MAIMED LIFE). I was in touch with a lot of writers and readers of different countries and even a very good friend of mine Lius coll. He is a Ielts instructor in US and he gave me some classes on skype to enhance my speaking skills. Ramona.Q.Praq, a woman from Texas always helped in writing better English poetry, Mark Christian from the Merle Jagger Country Music Band (USA) always appreciated me and helped me with my writing and editing tasks as well. Many people used to say , I might be too involved with the “Gorra people”(White people) as they are not Muslims etc? But I have a question for them. And that is in Islam we have restrictions on people. Kill him/her internally? We might be closing all the doors hope for people. It is very easy to talk about others, however it is very hard to look unto your self. And now after 10 days plus, my publications are running on different blogs, web sites even on Google. I have got 25 plus achievement (medals, shields, certificates) as a writer, guest and editor working as a story reporter. Currently I am working in an International schooling system as a Mathematics teacher and also working part time on my new script “ Soaring Hearts”. And I am running my home academy where even beacon house students are coming to learn from me and I am supporting one my elder sisters. She is in a crises with her kids due to some wrong decisions she made with certain people. Recently I have joined a forum that belongs to one passionate lady, Irsa khan. We are developing FI(Flourishing ideas) where will be working on the educational awareness of needy kids and the human rights of trans gender individuals. I am truly blessed to be the daughter and possibly even a son of my father, and brother of my brother. All of my younger sisters are independent as well and working on their own projects. It was thought to not ever be possible for me to do this. But I proved that this is not just the success story of myself, however a success story of my parents and especially my father who fought the whole world. I don't need anybody to judge family. I just want everyone to love them. And I have a positive message for all the worlds youth. "Don't let people break you or your family’s silky wings by their harsh words”. Right now I could use some loving prayers from all of you.
