Introducing myself and my journal: SWASHAKT

About Me:
I am a full time writer and a social activist with a deep interest in issues regarding women. A post graduate in English Literature from Delhi University, I began my career in advertising as a copy writer and went on to become the Creative Director.
I have written a book on career counseling (published by Vision Books) film scripts and several papers on women’s rights for newspapers, compilations and the UN system and have presented many papers on both national and international forums. I have also been writing spiritual features. I write both prose and poetry. My poems have been transformed into dances, thus creating a fusion of literary expressions with the performing arts. Many of my poems are gender based and have been sponsored by the UNIFEM and UNFPA as dance presentations. I have recently completed an anthology of poems inspired by both the beauty and tragedy of Kashmir.
As a social activist I have worked extensively with the militancy affected women and children of Kashmir. Having traveled extensively and interacted with people across all walks of life in Kashmir,I hope I have a deep insight into the irrevocable impact of armed conflict on the common man. My focus of work is mainly the underprivileged women, particularly widows and single women, since in a patriarchal society they suffer multiple marginalization
My other interests include traveling, cooking, and spirituality (not necessarily in this order)
I am married to a corporate finance professional and live in Delhi with my husband and daughter.
