Introducing myself and my journal: We need to talk

About Me:
I am a photographer who is working on a world wide project dealing with gender based violence. I have for now been to Cambodia, Thailand and Guatemala meeting women who are survivors of trafficking , rape , domestic violence and rape used as a tool of war. I arrive in each region with no preconceived ideas and a very open mind and want the women to tell me their specific issues. I give them a chance to express themselves, and be seen as the brave and strong dignified survivors they are. I always do this work in collaboration with NGOs and organizations that help the women.

I don't think art can change the world , but I do think it can help open up our minds to look at each other and start a discussion that acknowledges the dark reality that is too often swept under the carpet as it is too uncomfortable and taboo. All the women I meet want to talk and want to be heard, but more then anything they want change.

This project is a work in progress. I am currently working with female immigrant farm laborers in the U.S who often live in very isolated communities and endure sexual harassment in the fields.

I am in the process of planning future work trips abroad .
