Introducing myself and my journal: Changing The World Through Words

About Me:
I am an author of three nonfiction books, multimedia journalist, assistant professor of journalism at Northwestern University and a seminar instructor and mentor/editor for The OpEd Project. I have been writing for newspapers, magazines and digital outlets for more than 30 years. I am a single parent of three sons, ages 23, 21 and 18, raising them alone since they were 6,4 and 1. I do public speaking around the U.S. on issues of women and the media as well as violence against women. My first book was a memoir about my experience married to a man who was violent. My second book, "Writing To Save Your Life," is the basis of writing workshops I have been giving around the US for 12 years. My third book was about the changes in journalism in this century. I recently finished another book about having cancer, raising my sons alone and the sport they all have done in high school-- wrestling. You can see my work at www.micheleweldon.com. Oh, yes, for the past year, I have been roller skating in amateur roller derby. It is so much fun!
