THE UNCOMFORTABLE TRUTHS

One of the challenges I face is the fact that I have been in the process of rediscovering my self, coming out of my situation and allowing my community to see the change in me, However there are a few challenges I have observed in my community;
I never saw women meet or form groups in my community; I came to hear about them in the city, and to date women keep to themselves .partly because, they are restrained by their husbands and also because meeting for talks and listen to other women is seen as a waste of time.I think opportunities for change never happened for this women right from the start. And this this remains a major challenge.
It’s usually difficult for women to have a say in my community. A question is always asked where the husband is. And if it’s a girl they ask where the father is? It’s a culturally male dominated community. And it becomes even difficult for a single mother or a widow. Women lack power to decide and it’s a big challenge Men have become self proclaimed experts in handling issues.
Therefore there are barriers which prevent support of women and does not allow them to tell the uncomfortable truths and which would otherwise empower them in their normal life.
What I have done for myself is to look around for motivation, training and mentorship and I will keep on until the job is done. I look around more than ever for positive people who will not put me down and lower my self esteem.Recently i was introduce by a frind to a woman of peace programme which took three months of training,i was encouraged to speak out, and let out my anger.I was also able to heal internally. We also have a single ladies group where we reach out to young girls and teach them about Gods plan for their sexuality.
The online facilities especially PulseWire, is a powerful tool for development, It facilitates women’s access to information, education. Through Pulse Wire I have been able to read stories of other women and how they have been able to cope. it is alsoa place place to be mentored and stay informed..
