Greetings beautiful people!

This has been a hectic yet fruitful week for me.

Firstly, I've just submitted my first assignment. My Editorial Mentor is fantabulous! With just 2 rounds of editing, she really polished up my work and taught me how to make an article come alive through vivid descriptions. You can see the difference yourself: The draft- and the final assignment-

Secondly, I've just received the Correspondent Press Pass! What really boosted me up is the personalized message. I guess the word "bookaholic" really struck a chord with this wonderful community! Maybe we could together start a nice project related to books!

Thirdly, remember one of my goals was to launch a women-centric shop ( With advice from my Vision Mentor, I aim to start it within a week! I will share the link once it's launched and would love you to support me in the endeavor in any way you feel appropriate.

Fourthly, another of my goals was to amplify my voice through blogging. I am planning to do just that through a blog that merges digital advocacy, travel, and culture. Again, I will share the link with you and would love you to be a part of it.

Lastly, I got a job! It's slightly better-paid than the last, but the additional benefits are more interesting: training, ability to work together in the office, being associated with the leading newspaper in Bangladesh (which means connecting with some really influential people), and coming out of my comfort zone to write about fashion, food, lifestyle, and travel. So what about the social issues that I was writing on? Fret not as that's in my blood- I'll continue to write on social issues through the blog I mentioned above. Also, if fortunate, I might later get a position in the same newspaper through which I will be able to contribute stories on social issues, amplifying my reach.

Lots of emailing to do.

Seeking your love and blessings, Monica

Hi Monica, the journey's been demanding and eventful; however, the good news is that I am enjoying the ride. The learning experiences makes me feel more empowered by the day, and I am already brainstorming on how to go about stepping it down to other women in my community. I feel really blessed to be a art of the 2013 VOF journey!

Enjoy all that is unfolding around you!

Warmly, Greengirl

Dear Zoe,

Thank you so much for your comment! I am glad to be able to put a smile across your face.

In my VOF application, I had mentioned:

It has been a dream to help my mother regain her confidence, have financial independence, and have her own identity. She will gain computer literacy, business acumen, and design skills through a woman-centric online store. It will be women-centric not only in terms of its products, but also its promotion and operation. For example, it will also employ victims of domestic abuse. 20% of the shop’s annual profits will go to women empowerment programs.

I wanted to walk the talk, rather than leaving it as mere lip-service. This store is trying to achieve the above. Link to the store is:

Please do like, invite others, make purchases, or contribute in any other way you feel appropriate. Would love to have your support and love from the beginning!

I am still seeking funds for the mapping project. Thank you for your interest in my progress!

Warmly, Monica
