LIVE ADDIS

LIVE Addis is an NGO founded by a guy named Mr. Alemayehu Teshome. I meet this guy on FB. I guess he likes my book “My Online Dates” and that’s how we meet. Most of the time he comments or like the posts I shared. A month ago, I chat him live on Sunday morning. He said all my shares are useful. I send him on FB when I see trainings and scholarships. That same day, he was flying to Brussels. I wrote him about World Pulse, and asked him to share the news to all girls and women. After four days, I travelled.

We arranged a meeting and he came and picked me. We chat over lunch, it was 13 Oct’17. He invited me to visit his office, he said…maybe we can work together. I went to visit his office on 20th Oct’17. His office is a four story building. On the corridors I saw pictures of refugees who died in the wilderness.

I was ushered to third floor, there is his office. Bottled water and roasted barley mixed with cheek peas( Kolo) served by a girl. He sat down and tale his tale about his organization LIVE Addis.

He was not able to go to the university, lack of opportunity. He wants to give the opportunity he missed, to others. His NGO is supporting the youth to go to college, different vocational school and get them hired. He does the follow up to the end. The immigration is a result of opportunity. The youth are flooding to abroad and dare to try the risky boat travel, crossing Sahara desert to travel to Europe. Many of them died in the desert, in the sea, and some were butchered and their body parts sold in middle east. Some survived from death in a container and brought home alive. Some crippled and some mentally ill. He is also helping the returnees to rehabilitate and send them for different trainings and earn to support themselves.

I asked him what we can do together? I am focused only in helping the women. LIVE Addis has a plan to empower women, but I don’t know in which way.

We agreed about digital empowerment. We can empower youth and women digitally together.

If I can get laptops, he is willing to vacate one of the rooms for this use. I am thankful for Mr Alemayehu Teshome. Hope World Pulse will be willing to support this idea and we can reach many youths and women.

Hi! I read your story and it is very inspiring. I'm glad you are making great connections locally where your voice can be heard globally. Don't give up hope. I do believe the world is changing. Sometimes it appears that it's not changing for the better but when we collectively raise our voices we will be heard and change will happen!!!

Hi Lily,

I am so glad to learn about Alemayehu Teshome, and about how you have been able to meet in person and begin discussing collaboration, all by noticing each others' work and taking the time to meet. I hope this new connection will blossom, and that the room will soon be filled with women and girls using laptops, and even more boys and men like this beautiful man working alongside.

In sisterhood,

Tam
