VOF Week 3- Blog Spot Central

Blogging is an activity I restrict only to World Pulse. Prior to this, blogging was a word I associated to computer geeks who had nothing better to do than stay glued to their computers. I now know better.

Blogging as I understand it now, thanks to World Pulse, is a tool that can be used to reach the masses throughout the world and share experiences, network and meet new people, learn about different cultures, ethics and so much more with the help of a computer and the internet.

Blogging has opened my eyes to new opportunities such as being heard by people I thought I would not have had the chance to reach otherwise. It has also given a platform to others to share their thoughts

It can be hard especially in Third World Countries. Firstly, majority of the populatin is illiterate.

Secondly,internet access is left to chance or good fortune. One time the signal is strong but as soon as you settle to send mail or surf the net, the signal dies. As if that is not enough, not everyone is able to have a computer in the house (It's a luxury) so traveling to and fro from an internet cafe can be really tricky especially if you live up country and have to travel all the way to the city.

However, the experience of blogging is entirely different on world pulse. At the back of my mind I always know that someone is almost listening to what I have to say through reading my work. Someone on the other side is eager and appreciates what I have written, what I think and what i feel. I am accountable for anything I put down on my journal in World pulse.

Having said that, there is security issues which can crop up while writing blogs. Copyright material is often vague and leaves a niche where anyone can steal your thoughts and ideas and make them their own without your knowledge.

The insecurity has led quite a number of people to opt for opening websites which require money and other resources to get it going. So blogs are slowly loosing their credibility.

All in all, blogging requires alot of commitement in terms of finances and time. For example, it has taken me about three hours to get this message onto world pilse because of slow internet which is not only frustrating but also boring. However, I will not forget the importance of having my voice heard by others.

I pray that internet speeds will improve and the internet/ computers made more accesible to all, rich or poor, literate or illiterate, disabled or unabled.
