Pregnant = Fired!

Hello Everyone,

I thought if I really needed to write my story here, if it was relevant at all, but then every morning I wake up, I have a feeling that so many women are treated unfairly, JUST BECASUE THEY ARE WOMEN!!!! So I decided to make my story heard.

I worked for a big multinational company, that approached me 4 years ago with a job offer, which was quite attractive (salary wise first of all and they were saying, career-wise as well). I was a civil servant before and was the only one who worked in the family (my parents and brother could not find any kind of job as the unemployment rate was very high in the country). I was all excisted about the new opportunity and invested myself heart and soul into the work. In 4 years I accomplished over 5 successful projects that brought the company over USD 10 mln. I know you think I got a good recognition for the job I have done!!!! Hell no!!! I only got a pat on the shoulder and a words of congratulations from the bosses who filled in their pockets with the bonuses they got for the projects I delivered. Well, I did not complain as I needed to earn the salary = the living for my parents who were getting old and needed a medical treatment. Last year I got married and got pregnant. My bosses were outraged. The head of HR of the company told me at one of the company meetings that the pregnant women were considered handicapped and were unprofitable employees to the company. I fiercely protested, but he was back up by all the male managers (including GM) of the company and I could not achieve anything, but felt bitter about them. On my 6 months of pregnancy, the GM together with another head of functioned called my in for a meeting where they told me that I had to leave a job. When I inquired into the reasons of why - due to to my misperformance, misbehaviour, anything that I have done that damaged the company's reputation or revenues???? they said no, I was perfect manager, but they did not want to have pregnant women in the office as these women cannot dedicate themselves 100% to the company's benefit!!!!!! I was outraged, but the labour law of the country does permit them to fire employees within an hour's notice and for no grave reason. I am now in my 7th months and unable to find a job (who would want to employ a pregant girl....I wake up every morning thinking how unfair this world is and how difficult it is to be born a woman, who needs to prove that she is just as good as anyone else hwne it comes to career struggle!!!!
