Canadian abortion rights fighter: Dr. Henry Morgentaler

Women across Canada have lost a great ally in the fight for the right to legal and safe abortions. Dr. Henry Morgentaler died at the age of 90 on May 29. At great personal risk, surviving the bombing of his abortion clinic and many aggressive anti-abortion protests, Dr. Morgentaler fought tirelessly for the right of women to have full control over their reproductive choices. Along with many women's rights groups, he took this fight to the Supreme Court and twenty-five years ago this year, the Court ruled that the abortion law was unconstitutional.

As Julie Lalonde, a board member with the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada told CBC news: \"Our hope is that he will be memorialized respectfully and that even people who disagree with his beliefs or who disagree with women's access to abortion will still recognize the work that he did and the sacrifices he made in his own life.\"
