Provide Security for Women, the entire Nation, Community & Home will be peaceful

Security is creating enabling environment where by women like their male counterparts can freely contribute their own resources towards community or nations development. Security for women is very essential in the growth and development of the society. A society where security is assured for the female folk is definitely a peaceful society and where there is peace, there will be progress as both women and men can freely put their resources together to address any challenges facing their environment. Why are we having conflicts and violence all over the world today? because men have refused to acknowledge the role and usefulness of women in the society. If only the men will listen to the women and allow them to participate in the leadership of the nation, the community or the home, then security and peace will be achieved in all spheres of life.

Are the women really secured? Is there any aspect of security shown them? Can women stand tall and beat their chests and say \"yes, we are secured\" What can be done to remedy these situations? 

As I am writing now, from my community a widow is languishing in a police cell for more than eleven months now while the husband is still in the mortuary for a crime she did not commit just because she is a woman. Story had it that a man threatened to kill her husband within two days and eventually executed his treat and the community was furious against him and chased him out of the community and his brothers-in-law had this woman arrested and detained and till date no bail was allowed for her.

An elderly widow from that family is late now, one of those I helped to give shelter while she was alive and helpless because of lack of male child and she cannot be buried because the police will not want to see anybody come to the aid of those women in fact, even in her old age of close to 90 years, she had to run to her daughter who is married outside their community. As a matter of fact, she died in her daughter's house yet she cannot be brought home for burial, she is still there in the mortuary. Then I ask, are the women really secured?

Back home in my community, women have no inheritance no matter how wealthy their parents might be. No matter the efforts a woman made while in her father's house before marriage, she has nothing to inherit as property in her father's house. By the grace of God, I happen to come from a well to do family, my parents had property here and there, and we are females first before male. Indeed, the females helped tremendously in the upbringing of the males I have one of my senior sisters who was very wealthy and in fact, every member of the family benefited greatly from her generosity, but I was moved to tears and still marveled at how she was treated after the death of my parents. That no property was allocated to her. Even when she was widowed there was nothing for her from her father's house. She struggled and survived on her own just because she is a woman. Even those boys, who are now men whom she  pampered and lavished all her money and love have now turned to be the lords and masters of the house with no regard to her.

The torture, insults and humiliations, women face in the hands of their brothers-in-law in their marital homes with no body not even their husbands coming to their rescue are also such great insecurity that women pass through. Sometimes one may ask, 'is it because I am a women?'

In my nation, over the years, men have failed in their leadership, yet they want to continue just because they don't want women leadership, not because they cannot perform  but simply because they are women. They are no aspect of security shown to women.

For any nation, community or home to have lasting peace and harmony, they should recognize the importance and dignity of the women and give them their due. They should allow them free hands to use their potentials to its fullest. They should see them as equal especially in areas of decision making. The male should not take decisions at their back and impose on them as if they don't belong to the society. The women should be part of decision making in the home, community and nation and the implementation of the decision should be made by both. 

As a matter of fact, the future of security is women because for security to be attained in the world, women must be regarded first and given the protection and attention so needed for peace and harmony to reign.
