A phenomena Woman -#IstandwithAisha

The good people of Nigeria voted our President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan because we were tired of corruption and economy stagnation, we wanted a change. That was what Buhari promised. He swept us off our feet with the change slogan.

Buhari promised heaven on earth for the masses, he promised to pay monthly stipend for unemployed Nigerians, lunch for school pupils and much more. We were relieved thinking that Daniel has come into power. Lo and behold, even after a year of his government, we could only read his promises on his old manifestoes.

Nothing came to past. Except the 'Northernization' of Nigeria.

I am not an economist, but I will indulge the reader to calculate the rate of inflation by the price of the commonest food in Nigeria. During the last regime, when we were wailing, the price of 50kg rice was 9,000 NAIRA, But today, it is 20,000 Naira. United States dollars which used to be N150 is now more than N450 to just a $. Buhari promised us that during his regime US dollar will be equal to Nigeria Naira. Prices of commodities have doubled in our market and once again, the level of poverty has catapulted.

Every Nigerian woman complains about the economy, it affects everyone. Nobody is spared in my community too. It got to a point that we had to beg for food stuffs so that we could distribute amongst our sisters. It was that bad.

This I believed was led to the misunderstanding between the wife of the Nigerian President-Aisha and her husband. She came out openly to tell the husband that she would not campaign for him in the next election if he refused to alleviate the hardship of the common Nigerian- the masses.

This led to the outburst of Buhari in Germany last week. To humiliate Buhari the more, his out burst was in the presence of one of the female presidents in the world, the German Chancellor. Buhari said that he does not know which party his wife belongsto, but'my wife belongs to my kitchen, my dining room andmy other room'

In 1983, my uneducated mother told me that the place of a woman is in the palace not in any man's kitchen, she advised me to study hard because there is nothing impossible for an educated woman, any profession, as long as she is well read.

So, Buhari is absolutely wrong tomake such statement in 2016. Come to think of it,if Buhari had said otherwise, it means that our Feminism is no longer necessary anymore, we need not agitate anymore, equality would have been achieved. Alas, we are far from equality. Buhari's statement affirms the thought of the majority of Nigerian men. How can we eradicate illiteracy amongst girls in Nigeriaif the President still reiterates such statement???? A statement that is supposed to be an abomination amongst educated people.

if Buhari had said, my wife and myselfbelongs to the same party, she is my friend and my equal, we wont need to bescreaming about gender equality in Nigeria

If Buhari had lovingly described his wife's presence in his life with words of endearment and kindness, Violence against women will not be an issue in Nigeria anymore, because he is the mirror that men in our society ought to look up to. What is leadership? It is sad indeed thatHis action is the reflection ofthis society,

if Buhari had utmost respect for his wife, he will not expose his ignorance thousands of kilometres away from Nigeria

if Aisha has a right to be listened to, reasoned with and lovingly acceptedinthe 'other room', Buhari wont have any reason to expose his fowl's anus in Germany.

The issue at hand shows the attitude of the President to gender equality, violence against women and emotional oppression of women in Nigeria. If Buhari cannot respect his loving wife, how will he respect a common woman? If Buhari thinks that his wife belongs to his kitchen in 2016, why are we talking about gender and equal opportunity's bill?

The president of Nigeria does not deserve any second term because he is still living in the 18th century and should remain there, therefore, the issue of whether Aisha will campaign for him or not is a forgone conclusion.

President Buhari should not only put his house in order, he should go back to read his party manifesto and implement what he promised Nigerians. If he cannot love, listen to the advise and respect his wife, we are not sure that he can do that for any other Nigerian woman too.

As I write, I think deeply about the emotional trauma that Aisha will be passing through now, in the hands of her in-law and family members, I feel her pain, in the hands of party supporters and hypocrites. What saddens me more is the comments of so called FELLOW WOMEN.

On the other way round, I have seen great men, who came out to openly show solidarity with Aisha, husbands of women, who posted the picture of their adorable wives, I have seen a video of a man in kitchen, Buhari's patriarchal stereotypical mind cannot bring us backward, Never, Forward ever to open minded women and men who believe in gender equality. We will achieve it, We can

A president that is deeply entrenched in 1800's idea should not be ruling in 2016.
