GIRLS AND SECRET

GIRLS AND SECRET

This is a story that brings out the danger in keeping everything as a “secret”. A true life story that happen to me, I’m the third girl in the family, we are four in number, three girls and a boy, then as a teenager I normally keep my things as secret not because my mummy was not close to us but I just usually feel too shy to discuss intimate things with her and yet I was so confused about so many things. The reproductive system of a woman, sexuality and some few other things in life.

When I started my menstruation as a young girl, I discovered a lot of irregularities with it, I mean sometimes it will show up this month, the next two month it will not show up, I kept it with myself.

There was a time my menstruation came on a particular month and decided not to stop for about three month and the irony of it was that I kept it as a secret to myself and refuse to discuss it with anyone, I was hiding and trying to manage the situation all alone for good three months and my life was gradually passing out, I mean I was slowly losing my strength yet I was still very shy to tell my mum about it “hun what a secret”

One fateful day my sister saw me using pads and noticed that she has been seeing me using pads all the time and told my mum about it and then the secret was revealed. “can you imagine I would have been dead then but God saved me. When heard she was shocked that I was keeping that as a secret, she took me to the hospital and that was how the journey started until God brought a doctor that prescribed a drug and the blood stopped but then I’ve lost a lot of blood and I was told that God just wanted me to be around for a purpose that’s why I did not die then.

A girl needs to speak out more on any form of health issue, if a girl child see’s any form of changes in her body she needs not to keep it as secret because it can be very dangerous, mine was case that I always imagine why I was keeping that a e myself.

I can also talk of a story of my friend who was raped by a neighbor’s friend and decided to keep it as secret because she was too ashamed to say it out and she decided to live with the pain and trauma it caused her for the rest of her life and different cases of fathers sleeping with their daughters, sexual harassment from boys and men leaving in the neighborhood. I know there people that can attest to what I’m saying in this story,

Women/girls all over the world no more secret your voice, my voice counts, always be bold to speak out no matter the pressure cause our voices count a lot. \"you can always die in silence you know, so speak up at all times\"
