Since 2008 I have worked with Congolese women refugees living in the Kyangwali refugee settlement in Uganda. In 2009 I created the US non-profit peopleWeaver. We provide economic assistance, such as microcredit loans. We are a very, very small organization but since 2008 we have been able to give 100 microcredit loans and grant two-grain mills. During our 2013 visit we took children books and started a small library at a primary school. We were only able to take 50 books because of the airline’s baggage weight limit but we are hoping other visitors to the camp take books for the library. Also during our 2013 visit the ladies asked for adult education – business, English classes, sanitation, and family planning. We are in the process of trying to decide if we have enough funds for this. In the meantime we did start a pilot session of classes that began in April.
