In 2008 I created a USA non-profit organization named, Peopleweaver. We partner with Congolese refugees living in the Kyangwali Refugee Settlement to create economic growth and provide adult education. For several years it was difficult to receive pictures and project updates. Without these updates the organization’s enthusiasm, and its ability to keep existing donors, and attract new donors, was difficult. Then we discovered the power of Facebook and the cell phone. We have been able to use these tools to communicate quickly and receive pictures. Unfortunately, most of the people in Kyangwali that have access to technology tools are men. Women are often, if not usually, left without these tools.
