Harnessing the power of a vision

The voices of women are rising all over the globe. We visualize a world no longer with a "right or wrong" gender. A world that daughters are cherished as much as sons; women are no longer a liability but an asset to families and nations; the grips of oppressive traditions are broken by the will of self-determination and education.

"Rise of the Phoenix" is a documentary film that examines these issues. Through the intimate lens as an outsider returning to China, I explores the changing roles, rights and status of women in 21st century China against the backdrop of a sexist culture. The compelling stories of my subjects, four women from diverse social and economic backgrounds, bore witness that gender equality is often fought for, not given. We have started the production of this documentary more than 2 years ago. But finding funding to continue the production is very challenging. We would like to return to China to get more stories to complete the production in 2012. I am appealing for your support of my endeavor in 2 ways:
