All you need is a little help from friends

A challenge: a task or situation that tests someone's abilities. Taking charge and making a commitment to make a change in the way people see organizations is a hard concept. I live in a college town that is very liberal, on every street corner there is a different organization, group, homeless person asking for you to sign their petition or to give them money. The challenge then rises, which one do I support, which one do I think will do the most good for their cause. How can I start my own action plan so others take notice? I prefer the internet and social media outlets on the internet to get my ideas out there. I recently found through the website redlightchildren.org about a walk in Washington, D.C. that is taking place later this month. To help support this cause, I forwarded on to a friend of mine that is more active than me in helping empower women and expose sex trafficing. Through me posting it on her page, I was also exposing others to the cause. I find that using the internet and Web 2.0, I can reach more listeners than standing on a street corner trying to get someone to listen to me. Another definition of the word challenge is: an objection or query as to the truth of something, often with an implicit demand for proof. I find this to be an even bigger barrier than getting my voice heard. We are living in a recession, everyone is cutting back and not giving to support others at this time. In order for someone to give now, they need to see some cold hard facts about what the organization is they are going to support and what is their money directly going to go to. I know for myself, when I donate, I make sure that almost all of the profit of my sale goes directly to the organization. I love shopping in the marketplace on WorldPulse, I buy a lot of gifts for people from there because I know the money is going to help women directly.

As I mentioned earlier, I believe that using Web 2.0 and other social media outlets on the internet, there is a wider listening pool. More people that really care about the cause will find you and in turn that will give a more direct link and voice to the challenge of getting my voice heard. I am looking for a place where I can help volunteer or donate my time or knowledge. That is how I found WorldPulse, I am new and am still looking around to find out how I can become more than just a listener, but how I can become part of the solution or challenge of change.
