Karuna

The Karuna Project is a multi-disciplinary group of experts who work with other humanitarian organizations and social systems worldwide in the field of trauma recovery. We are responding to a growing recognition of the pervasive and invisible nature of the effects of natural and man mad violence and disaster within all sectors of society. By becoming trauma literate, incorporating traditional and modern healing trauma informed practices, and changing the way systems assist people, we envision a global society that heals rather than harms.

Karuna's goal is to empower individuals and communities, promote human dignity at every level and usher social change so that people will create their own self-determined realities, rather than continue the cycle of dependency and helplessness so often seen within human service agencies. We see these moments of impact as opportunities for meaningful change - with timely attention, education and healing; women, men, and children become effective changemakers, transforming the way they experience and find meaning in their lives.
The Karuna Project has begun by creating the Karuna Center in San Francisco where we offer experiential trainings and services that incorporate all our modalities of healing. Karuna's experiential center located on the American River, offers groups an opportunity to heal themselves while learning how to assist the people they serve.-Our goal is to provide what we recognize is often missing: healing practices that are based on scientific research that transform the lives of people on every level.

In addition Karuna collaborates with organizations, locally and globally, to transform the destructive impacts of these traumatic experiences into creative opportunities for meaningful change.
