My name is Rachel Symons and I currently attend California State University, Sacramento as a Women's Studies major. For years I have been interested and involved with human rights issues both nationally and internationally. One day I hope to use my passions of writing, photography, dance, music, and fashion to promote social justice and to support and empower those who have been denied their basic human rights.
I am a true believer in the idea that leaders are servants to those they lead. As someone who has had a very privileged life so far, I have no other desire but to use the life I have been given and the life I have worked hard for in order to serve and to love those who ask for such support.
There is nothing more important in today's complex society than to help each other navigate this world we have created for ourselves. It may not be the choice of many to follow the strict, socially acceptable rules and regulations that our cultures have placed upon us, but they are existent none-the-less, and if we deny or ignore their existence, we will never be able to change and overcome them.
What is more, the integrity and character of humanity has been tested in the times of hardship and even more so in times of prosperity. We have both won triumphantly and failed miserably. Being human, however, is not a matter of winning and losing. It is a matter of realizing that we are all human, and that we all deserve to be treated as such.
I have faith that networks such as World Pulse are the seeds of this vision.
