Young Women for Unicef Conference

Please have a look at the information below. Unicef is hosting a conference in NY the 26-28th of April, and are looking for two young women to participate in a panel. Here's some more information for the conference in detail. Please let me know if you have recommendations as soon as possible. I think this is a great way to start a dialog about the role of women and young girls in Hayti.

I am hosting a panel discussion based around a short video that we have produced to share the experience of adolescent girls in the settlements in Haiti. This panel is about their aspirations and their future, their experience and an opportunity to learn how UNICEF can work towards the achievement of their rights. I would like to create a space for the voices of young people to discuss their rights with special focus on girls. I want people to understand how young people can make a difference in reconstruction but also on dealing with disaster preparation. I am therefore looking for two young girls preferably below 18 years who might have experienced the earthquake and who understand the challenges faced by girls in Haiti. I would like to meet them either by phone or somehow engage them in a discussion to understand their views and then if feasible, invite them to share some thoughts on the experiences described in the video that we have produced. The video is a short 6 minute story of the lives of three girls.

I am hoping that through the video, the discussion, the insight of people like yourself and other Haitians that the messages become clear - that young people and especially girls are resources for haiti, they have rights, they should be part of the solution and most of all they have a clear picture of what the future looks like. From this positive experience I hope that UNICEF communications and others will help capture the story and make their presence felt. We certainly intend to use the video in as many circumstances as possible.
