My Journey

Life is a journey filled with impressions left upon one; some from sights, some from words. It is these impressions that create the person we are. Some impress so deeply they become the foundation we build our morals and ethical standards on As a woman I grew up that one day I want to be a leader, a leader who changes the world by action and by being a role model. When I was born in an small town from Sri Lanka I never thought I would be here today. I am so proud that I had my Dad who was a role model, honest and who lead our family not to be rich with money but with humanity. My father was not a Daddy only for us but for his students where he used be a teacher and a school principal. He enjoyed giving his knowledge ( free tuition) for those who needed it. I am lucky enough to have the family who have same sense of humour in our family blood. It was pleasure to say that the strength in our hearts was more powerful than our weak hungry body. The society we were living was mixed with culture, religion and nations where we had being integrated as a family. The hunger was more powerful than anything else at that time. Political issues, religion issues and other problems were among us and attempted strangle the community. We tried hard to continue our education and life even society problems barriered us to prevent it. Poverty, Civil war discrimination, Political issues were main obstacles that we had to face at that time. My fate directed my life to the place I am now. When I had to face all those problems I felt that I had the energy and the knowledge I can learn and achieve more. I have finished my Degree in Queens University in Belfast and to be honest I have gained vast knowledge about Childhood Studies, Anti Discrimination policies and the education system. I was able to find a job relating to my topic even though it was not according to my qualification. There are moments I felt that all those sleepless night, hard work, money and my effort I put to achieve this qualification if I was not able find a job according to my qualification " Will it be streessful ?". I felt it was a disadvantage to be an ethnic minority woman when I had to face the discrimination and racism. The main thing I understood from the society where I live in currently is that it is hard to change their mentality about other cultures, acceptance, respect and equality. The society need to be improved their level of thinking of others and integrating as some people dislike the challenging people, who speak honestly. My aim is challenging myself be a role model by action change the way of thinking negatively. I am involving myself in voluntary work and other community work where I can show true me and my strength as we are living a world that everything is counted by money and losing humanity. My mission involving with disable people, vulnerable adults and children. There are positive people and negative people in the world as it says thatnot everyone is bad , not everyone is good. I am blessed to have some humans around me who support me and encourage me to continue my passion. It is a great opportunity if I have more friendly open minded self giving people around me who I can trust and keep confidentiality. And also an appropriate accommodation where I can invite and meet them as a family. "I don't want to lead others but I want to be followed by others". my quote , my passion and my vision.
