Introducing myself and my journal: Richelle reaching out to the world

About Me:
I’m the National Director of two amazing programs. One is called National Voter Registration Day; it gets people registered to vote. Last year — the inaugural year — we registered over 300,000 people across the country within 24 hours. (We also kinda created the whole “holiday” from scratch. Turns out you don’t need government approval to do that sort of thing.)

The other program is called Trick or Vote and it gets people to actually show up to the polls to cast their vote. Last year, we had nearly 10,000 volunteers — all dressed in costume — go door-to-door on Halloween night and remind people to vote.

On a day-to-day basis, directing these campaigns means talking to a lot of people, passionately telling them our story, being insanely organized, and creating systems to handle that amount of contact. It also means coming up with creative ideas and stories that bring our programs into the national spotlight and get people off of their couches and into the polls.
